The students are extremely excited start our unit on recorders. Recorder is a wind instrument that will prepare them for playing band or orchestra instruments in the future. In our recorder unit, your child will learn how to use their breath correctly to play the recorder and they will learn to read music on the music staff. I am excited to begin this recorder journey with our 3rd grade students.
I do allow students to bring home their recorders to practice at home. Having said that, there are a few very important rules that I want to share with you:
1. Students must play with their LEFT hand on top. The left hand thumb is placed on the thumb hole on the back of their recorder.
2. Students should play with soft, gentle, warm air.
3. I have asked that students play recorder at home or in the music room only. Not in the hallways, other classrooms, or on the bus.
As we learn various songs, I will be posting them below so your child can practice at home. In the meantime, check out a few fun websites that the students can practice with as well as a basic recorder introduction that I've used in class.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
