Every month, students will receive a "work habits" grade in music which is based off their participation during class. The work habits rubric has changed to a 5 point scale this year from a 4 point scale last year. Please click on the link below to view the rubric. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions regarding your students' grade. Mrs. Quintero

There is a bulletin board in the hallway by the music room that is dedicated to a mystery person each week. Last year, each featured person was a composer or a musical artist. This year, I have included staff members as a feature in order for our students and staff to learn a little bit more about the staff at Forest Glen. Each student who correctly guesses the mystery person will have their name put into a weekly drawing for a prize. Encourage your students to check out the clues daily!
Hello and welcome to the 2015-16 school year at Forest Glen! I am excited to be here teaching music once again and I am looking forward to making music, learning, and growing with your students.
Please feel free to check the blog weekly for updates regarding student activities, curriculum, and much more. All the blog posts will be organized by grade level for ease of use. Also, be sure to check out the chorus tab for information on signing your Level 3 student up for chorus. Chorus is an extra-curricular activity and we perform two concerts, one in fall and one in spring, during the school year. See the chorus tab for more information. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year here at Forest Glen and as always, feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or comments regarding your students' music education. Thanks and have a great year! Mrs. Keira Quintero Hello! In an effort to keep everything on my website organized, you can now check under the grade level tabs for specific information about your students' grade level. Anything that was posted previously on this blog page will stay here but future posts will be categorized by grade level. Any general information will be posted on this blog page. Thanks!!
Mrs. Quintero First grade students are preparing songs for their performance at their open house. The open house is on Thursday, May 21st and it will begin at 6:30 p.m. We are singing songs about using our imagination and being creative! The students are very excited and so am I! The students have an opportunity to have a CD of all the songs at home to practice with. The order form was sent home with students yesterday. If your students didn't bring one home or if it was misplaced, see the link below. Simply fill out the form and send it back to school with your child. These CD's are being made available at no charge to your family. Also, the words for all of the songs will be posted on this web page. See the links below for the songs. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you! Mrs. Quintero
Students in first grade have been learning all about rhythm reading using ta (quarter note) and ti-ti (2 eighth notes). We've been practicing creating rhythms using popsicle sticks, writing rhythms on white boards, and other great activities. Today, they were assessed on their ability to write the correct note above words for the speech piece "Double This, Double That." Afterwards, students were allowed to turn their paper over and create a rhythm pattern of their own. I even had one student add words to his piece to create a new rhythmic speech piece. It's so wonderful to see the application of learning in action! Enjoy this cute piece.
Students in Level 3 are working on a musical for their open house performance. The open house is Wednesday, March 25th. In order to accommodate all students and parent visitors, the level 3 performances will be split into an AM Literacy group and a PM Literacy group. The first performance will be AM Literacy students and it will begin at 6:30. The PM Literacy performance will begin at 7:15. Both performances will be held in the old gym. Listed below are the lyrics for each song we are singing. I encourage students to practice the songs at home in order for them to be fully prepared for the show. A CD of the songs is also available at no cost to our students. Please fill out the form and send it to school with your student if you are interested in having a CD. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you there! Keira Quintero
Level 3 students have really been enjoying our guitar unit. Students have learned at least 3 chords and some have even learned 4 chords. I showed a YouTube video in class so students could see how they can use those 4 chords to play just about any pop song on the radio. I shared the link below so students can watch the rest of the video at home if they are interested. Thanks! Hello! Welcome back from winter break and from our extra "cold days" last week. I hope everyone enjoyed their time off. We are gearing up for a 3rd grade performance at the open house on Thursday, February 12th. The performance will begin at 6:30 in the old gym. I am making a practice CD available for students who wish to order one. There is no charge for the CD, you just need to fill out the order form and send it back to school with your student. I will start sending home copies on Friday, January 16th. Having a CD at home to practice with will ensure the students know the songs by memory and will help prepare them for the performance. In addition to the practice CD, links to the lyrics can be found on this post. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the performance. Thank you! Mrs. Quintero
Hello, FG families! It's been a while since I posted an update on our blog. I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season. Things are busy here at Forest Glen. Mr. Caspers' AM class has been busy working on their PBL and will be vetting to me next week and will go to panel on January 9th. The students had a chance to Skype with an active composer last Friday and really enjoyed the opportunity to ask him questions about composition and music elements. The whole school is preparing for a fun Holiday Assembly next Friday. Students are busy learning about different holidays and the history and culture that go along with each holiday. We are also learning songs to go with the holidays. We are having a great time and it's always fun to hear about different traditions that our students have in their family during this holiday season. Chorus families: Please check out the chorus tab to sing up for the Remind group so you can receive brief text alerts about rehearsals, concerts, and other events. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season! Mrs. Quintero |
