Kindergarten students have been doing some thanksgiving themed activities the past few weeks during our class time. This week, students used pictures of different thanksgiving foods and together we discovered how many sounds/syllables each item has. This discovery is the basic building blocks for learning rhythm later on this year. Each group had some pictures of food items and they organized them in any way they wanted to (basic composition). Once their items were organized, they said the name of the item and clapped it as well. After that, it was time to say it and play it on a woodblock. Check out the pictures and the video below.
